What was the greatest empire in humanity?
What was the greatest empire in humanity? There is quite a selection when this subject matter is brought up. The most appealing of them all is the British Empire. It is so because it was the largest empire the world has ever seen. The British Empire covered 13.01 million square miles of land – more than 22% of the earth’s landmass. In this empire there were 458 million people in 1938 which was more than 20% of the world’s population. As a result of this size, its political, legal, linguistic and cultural legacy is widespread. The phrase “the empire on which the sun never sets” was often used to describe this empire. This was because its global expanse meant the sun was shining on at least one of their territories. The British Empire was also great because of the immensity of their influence on the world. Their reign is the reason why English is the second most dominant language of the world. Through its empire, Britain spread parliamentary forms of government to its colonies. Britain helped colonize many areas and helped them keep order which prevented unnecessary feuds and disputes among them. The empire is also the greatest empire because of the Industrial Revolution. The onset of the Industrial Revolution marked a major turning point in human history. It was a period from the 18th to 19th century where huge changes in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, and transport had an intense effect on the socioeconomic and cultural state starting in the UK, spreading through Europe, North America, and then the world. Almost every aspect of daily life was eventually influenced in some way. Without the Industrial Revolution, it’s possible that the creation of computers and electronics would have been delayed.
