Imperialism is when one country dominates or takes over another. Great Britain rapidly grew in the 19th century. India, Asia and parts of Africa joined with them to help expand their territory. Some reasons countries wanted to imperialize other countries is because, of things such as raw materials, military expansion, and to have a balance of power.There were many different causes to British imperialism, some being political, social or economic. Great Britain’s rule had both positive and negative effects on the colonies. One cause for the British imperialism was economic. The British exported primarily with India so they could make a profit for themselves. The exported things that made capital like cotton goods, yarn, iron, steel tools, machinery, wagons, trucks, paper, brass goods, woolens, and tobacco. (Doc. 3a) The British treated the Muslims and Hindus very poorly. The Seboy Rebellion broke out when the British greased the ammo with pig and beef fat. Industrial Revolution increased production in factories which meant the British needed a market to sell and produce goods to make a profit. (OI) Another cause of the British imperialism was political. Government had played a big part in the British imperialism “The British government was invited, pushed, and persuaded into helping the Rulers of certain States to introduce order into their disorderly, penniless, and distracted households [departments of government] , by sending trained British Civil Servants to advise the Rulers in the art of administration and to organize a system of government which would secure justice, freedom, safety for all, with the benefits of what is known as Civilization.”(doc.1) this is meant by saying the British had a good government. They went through an industrial revolution. This meant they had a strong stable government, raw materials, and advancements in art, architecture etc. (OI)

One more cause of the British imperialism was social. Social had to do with culture....
